Sandy Spier....
Born and raised in Joliet, Illinois. I married my husband Scot in 1992
and a year later we moved to LaCrosse Wisconsin. I have enjoyed a long
career in retail. I was a manager with Kohl's for 7 years and a general
manager with Old Navy for 3 years upon returning to the DeKalb area.
I remember the first time I attended the Kane County flea market... I was
hooked. My heart would start beating fast with each new bargain that I
would find. A friend would ask "what are you going to do with that?"
I wasn't really sure but I knew that I could find a new purpose for some
of that "junk". I remember thinking that my dream would be to find a
way to make a living by shopping at the flea market. So...a small pile of
treasures started accumulating in my basement in hopes that one day I
could open up my very own shop. That dream came true in May 2006
when I opened Poppy Seed Primitives. Owning my own business has
been an amazing experience. I'm one of the few people who can't wait to
get to work everyday. I enjoy visiting with my customers everyday. Many
have become friends. I also love merchandising the shop with the ever
changing inventory. I started with carrying only antiques and now have
found that I enjoy mixing the old with the new. I still look forward to
hunting for treasures at flea markets and estate sales but I also have
grown to love some of the unique vendor items that I sell. During my free
time I like to read and work on projects around the house. And of
course spend time with my husband and my two favorite dogs.

And no visit to the shop would be complete without
meeting Louie and Hailey, Sandy's two Golden
Retrievers. They were adopted from As Good As Gold
rescue in 2006 and have become Poppy Seed Primitives
perfect pets.
